Addressing the Lack of Foundational Environmental Health Competencies

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This session will address the concern that the lack of a competency focused on environmental health may result in MPH programs and schools offering fewer courses and tracks in environmental health, at a time when environmental health is greatly impacting the practice of public health. While we acknowledge that this was not the intent, APTR believes that every public health education program must include environmental health curricula.

The APTR Council of Graduate Programs in Public Health is exploring strategies to support public health programs that wish to maintain or enhance environmental health course work in their curriculum. These include advocating for a revision of CEPH foundational competencies to explicitly include environmental health, gathering member exemplars and tools for teaching environmental health under the new competencies, and/or writing commentaries or articles for publication.

Attendees will:
1. Discuss methods for integrating environmental health into the MPH curriculum.
2. Explore advocacy measures for promoting the continued inclusion of environmental health in the MPH curriculum.
